Après dix années d'existence, Etage 34 propose son cinquième disque. Il fait suite à "Exorde" (réf 9505), "..." (réf 9607), "Etage 34 / Benat Achiary" (réf 9910) et enfin "Live at Mhère Etage 34 / Le complexe de la Viande avec Laurent Dailleau et Serge Pey. Habitué aux confrontations et expériences (se reporter aux diverses aventures de Soixante Etages, d'Idiome 1238, et autres The Infusion), les musiciens d'Etage 34 commencent avec ce disque une collaboration avec la chanteuse japonaise Tenko. Rappelons ses disques de référence comme "Slope" (coproduit par Fred Frith) ou "At the Top of The Mt. Broken" ; son groupe "Dragon Blue" a marqué les scènes du free-rock, de même que les rencontres avec Otomo ou Ikue Mori... Son retour en Europe, à l'initiative du festival "Densités" fut à la hauteur de l'attente. Le disque a été enregistré les 27 et 28 octobre 2003 au studio du CCAM dans l'énergie du concert.

To celebrate their tenth anniversary, French power trio Etage 34 release a collection of newish material and archival highlights. Pretty much an unknown quantity in the UK and US, their sound is a combustible mix of murky, simmering riffs and freestyle eruptions. Taking the apocalyptic crescendos of The Stooges "LA Blues" and adding plenty of textural grit, taut rhythms and unpredictable volatility, they come up with sustained displays of inventive raw power. The older tracks, such as the squealing guitar overload of "Lost exit" and the epic fury of "Suit" contrast with the relatively streamlined approach shown on the driving groove of the more recently recorded "Nothin' knows" and a grimy, lumbering demolition of Neil Young's "Old Man". Also included are a couple of collaborations with guest vocalist; "Eaux Fortes" features the incredible freeform yodel of Beñat Achiary; and the vicious stutter of the kinetic "Ensités" is augmented by the powerfull squall generated by Japanese vocalist Tenko.
